La Réserve Ramatuelle by Jean-Michel Wilmotte
Perched on a quiet hill by the Mediterranean Sea, stands a 2,000 square metre temple of well-being called La Réserve Ramatuelle. Just minutes outside the legendary village of St. Tropez, this hilltop hideaway is part spa, part hotel and all serenity. Its seven guest rooms, 16 suites, 1,000 square metre spa and other facilities are seamlessly integrated into La Réserve’s private domain, a gorgeous pine-covered expanse, also home to twelve vacation villas that can be rented on either a short-term or long-term basis. The luxuriously spacious rooms range from 50 to 100 square metres and each is equipped with a private terrace or garden offering unrestricted views over the Provencal landscape below. A lounge, bar and restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine provide for gastronomic needs, and a private chef is available to prepare meals and cater parties.
It’s hard to compete with the stunning natural beauty of Provence, especially in Ramatuelle, where the setting sun of southern France kisses pine-topped hills and sparkling Mediterranean waters with equal warmth. Rather than compete with so dazzling a landscape, architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte chose to embrace it, creating spaces that pay reverence to the environment surrounding them. In a complete transformation of the 1950s buildings in which La Réserve hotel and spa stands, Wilmotte chose natural materials and a soft colour palette of ochre, white and sandy beige. His stone floors are bedecked with woven rugs by Paola Lenti and Tai Ping, his giant windows are hung with linen and cotton drapes by Marc Geisen and Kieffer, and his rooms are filled with contemporary furniture by Hans J. Wegner, Finn Juhl, Moroso, Flexform, Poltrona Frau, B&B and Roda. Designer Rémi Tessier took a similar approach in La Réserve’s twelve private villas. His interiors focus on spacious open areas intended to maximise the pleasures of the Provencal sun and salty sea breezes. Each individually designed villa has its own unique atmosphere, but all are surrounded by large private gardens and pools in typical Mediterranean style. Together, the simple lines and understated designs of Tessier’s villas and Wilmotte’s hotel-spa create a fresh and relaxing space that gracefully mirrors its serene seaside environment.
