GRIDS, a modern hostel and lounge, designed by architecture firm UDS, has recently opened in the Akihabara district of Tokyo, Japan.

Originally a 34 year old office building, the architects transformed it into a contemporary hostel and lounge that features a variety of accommodation options.

Upon entering, you are greeted by a bright neon sign (typical to the area), followed by the bar and lounge area, both of which have been inspired by a railway terminal.

“By adopting the concept of ‘The Travellers Hub’, we aim to allow guests to find new enjoyment and make connections with each other at our hostel while experiencing Japanese traditions and culture” says UDS.

When staying at GRIDS, you have a variety of sleeping options available. There is the POD, similar to a ‘sleeper train experience’ where you just get a bed.

Or a Dormitory, these rooms are good for larger groups who don’t mind sleeping in bunk beds.

Or you can choose a private room, including a family room.

For female travelers who travel solo, the 5th floor has been dedicated just to women, and in case you are concerned about where to keep your luggage, there are lockers available.
